About the Role
This position performs routine engineering assignments, with some supervisory responsibilities. The role involves reviewing plans and engineering reports, hydrologic and hydraulic models, for subdivisions, commercial, and industrial projects to ensure compliance with FEMA and Orange County Codes and Regulations as related to floodplain impacts. It also includes assisting with the preparation of Development Review Committee reports, reviewing Land Use Plans, Development Plans, and Preliminary Subdivision Plans as necessary, and reviewing and approving floodplain permits.
Responsibilities
- Reviews plans and engineering reports, as well as hydrologic and hydraulic models, for subdivisions, commercial, and industrial projects to ensure compliance with FEMA and Orange County Codes and Regulations as related to floodplain impacts.
- Reviews and analyzes (a) stormwater management systems associated with residential, commercial, and industrial developments, (b) drainage studies to establish 100-year flood elevations, and (c) updating floodplain delineation.
- Affords assistance with the preparation of Development Review Committee reports, and reviews Land Use Plans, Development Plans, and Preliminary Subdivision Plans as necessary.
- Assists with the county's participation in FEMA's National Flood Insurance Program and the Community Rating System (CRS).
Requirements
- Engineer I: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in a field of Engineering. In lieu of the degree requirements, additional relevant experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.
- Engineer II: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's degree in a field of Civil Engineering and one year of experience in Engineering or related field. In lieu of the degree requirements, additional relevant experience may be substituted on a year for year basis.
- Engineer III: A Bachelor's degree in a field of Civil Engineering and four years of experience in Engineering or related field. In lieu of the degree requirements, additional relevant experience may be substituted on a year for year basis. Must possess and maintain a Professional Engineer license from the Florida State Board of Professional Engineers or be able to obtain it within (6) six months from date of hire.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's, or advanced level degree from an accredited institution with an emphasis in Civil, or Environmental Engineering.
- Experienced in the areas of stormwater, drainage, or flood plain management.
- Possess a Certification in Flood Plain Management.
- Possesses experience in permitting with State / Regulatory agencies.

Pay
- Engineer I: Pay Grade 016 - From $26.94 to $35.03
- Engineer II: Pay Grade 018 - From $31.30 to $40.70
- Engineer III: Pay Grade 021 - From $39.21 to $50.97
