Cobb- Poultry Selection Worker

About the role

The role involves assisting with the selection and movement of birds at approximately 4-6 weeks of age based on conformation, physical attributes, and family data provided by the tablet. Other duties may include transferring and sexing birds, assembling equipment, moving birds between houses, stacking and moving coops, and other tasks as assigned.

Responsibilities

• Transfers and sexes birds.
• Assembles equipment.
• Bird movement from one house to the next or within houses.
• Stacks and moves coops of birds.
• Assists with identifying gender, catching, scanning wing band number, and auditing market birds for wing bands.
• Aids in set-up for selection by loading empty coops into house, placing catch frames in pens for easier bird access, hanging lights for better visual, setting up scales and scanners, making coop labels, placing coops in pens, and running needed cords.
• Properly euthanizes weak, ill, and injured birds in accordance with company policy, properly disposing of euthanized birds.

Requirements

• Must have at least 6 months of consecutive work history with one employer and no additional job gaps in employment greater than 6 months in the past 36 months.
• Must be willing to sign an agreement to avoid any avian species and abide by the Company Biosecurity and Animal Welfare Guidelines.

Qualifications

• Must be willing and able to perform the physical requirements of the job with or without reasonable accommodation.
• Physical: Must use safe lifting techniques. Must regularly lift and/or move, using two team members, up to 50 pounds to move items such as bird coops, tables and tools. May be required to occasionally lift and/or move up to 100+ pounds such as stacks of bird coops.
• Specific vision abilities required by the job include: close vision; distance vision; color vision; peripheral vision; depth perception; and the ability to adjust focus.
• Work Environment: Required to work on wet, slippery surfaces and also in hot, dry, dusty, wet and cold environments.

Pay

$17.00 per hour plus additional shift differential for evenings, nights, and weekends.

Schedule

Monday through Thursday, including holidays. Hours: Monday through Thursday 5:00 am until 3:00 pm. Work schedule is subject to change based upon production needs.
