About the Role
This is a full-time, day-shift position in a 16-bed Medical, Med-Surg/Ortho unit at Progress West Hospital. The role is benefits-eligible and may qualify for a sign-on bonus. The BJC RN Career Ladder empowers nurses to work at the top of their license and advance their careers, with moves to higher ladder levels resulting in a percentage increase of current pay.
Opened in 2007, Progress West Hospital is BJC HealthCare’s newest hospital in St. Charles County, featuring modern private rooms. It offers 24-hour emergency services, pediatric emergency care (in partnership with St. Louis Children’s Hospital), surgical services, endoscopy, a cardiac catheterization lab, medical/surgical inpatient services, diagnostic imaging, lab services, and the Advanced Wound Center. The hospital is a Certified Level II Stroke Center and recently expanded its Childbirth Center to include a newborn ICU for babies born as early as 32 weeks. The on-site medical office building houses specialists in primary care, cardiology, obstetrics, pediatrics, and orthopedics.
Responsibilities
- Provides direct patient care activities including assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation within the guidelines of nursing care standards.
- Promotes patient and family-centered care in a healing environment.
- Educates patients and families on managing illness or injury, post-treatment home care, and medication administration.
- Participates in activities that promote patient safety, quality, and regulatory compliance.
- Engages in professional development.
- Develops, implements, and documents individualized plans of care with defined goals in collaboration with the interprofessional team, patient, and family.
- Ensures communication of the care plan across the continuum of care.
- Uses critical nursing skills to assess and evaluate physical, psychosocial, and emotional needs according to care standards.
- Assesses patient preferences, barriers to care, and population-specific needs (e.g., values, emotional, spiritual, cultural).
This is a safety-sensitive position requiring constant alertness and safe work practices.
Requirements
- Active RN license.
- Nursing Diploma or Associate’s degree in Nursing (required).
- Bachelor’s degree in Nursing (preferred).
- No prior experience required, though preferred qualifications may apply.
