About the role

The Clinical Director of the Bellevue Outpatient Psychiatric Clinic (OPC) provides clinical, operational, and administrative leadership for the adult outpatient psychiatry clinic within the Division of Ambulatory & Community Psychiatry.

Responsibilities

  • Provides clinical, operational, and administrative leadership for the adult outpatient psychiatry clinic within the Division of Ambulatory & Community Psychiatry.
  • Oversees psychiatric services and collaborates closely with interdisciplinary leadership across psychology, social work, nursing, and administrative operations to ensure the delivery of high-quality, patient-centered, and efficient outpatient psychiatric care.
  • Oversees clinical operations of the OPC, including oversight of workflow, access, quality improvement, regulatory compliance, staff supervision, patient safety, and coordination of care across hospital and community systems.
  • Serves as a liaison between the OPC and other hospital departments, academic partners, and external agencies, and supports the educational mission of the department through teaching and supervision of trainees.
  • Reviews clinical utilization, productivity, and operational metrics and implements initiatives to improve access, efficiency, patient flow, and quality of care.
  • Collaborates with administrative leadership regarding scheduling, template management, and clinic workflows.
  • Reviews clinical staffing patterns, schedules, and caseload distribution for psychiatrists and collaborates with relevant discipline leadership regarding interdisciplinary staffing and operational needs.
  • Troubleshoots operational and workflow issues and develops strategies to improve clinic functioning and continuity of care.
  • Supports clinician compliance with documentation standards, clinical practice requirements, regulatory expectations, and hospital policies.
  • Participates in quality assurance, utilization review, patient safety, and performance improvement activities, including audits and case reviews as needed.
  • Serves as liaison between OPC and other hospital services (including inpatient psychiatry, CPEP, medical services, and community-based providers) to improve care coordination, patient transitions, and continuity of care.
  • Serves as a representative of the OPC in departmental, hospital, and interdisciplinary committees and initiatives.
  • Supports strategic planning and program development initiatives within ambulatory psychiatry services.
  • Maintains an active clinical practice within the OPC, providing direct patient care equivalent to, at minimum, 0.5 FTE or as otherwise determined by divisional leadership.
  • Provides psychiatric evaluation, treatment, and ongoing clinical management for adult outpatients with complex psychiatric needs.

Requirements

  • MD or DO degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Board certification in Psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology (ABPN), or board eligible with expectation of certification.
  • Current New York State medical license and DEA registration.

Qualifications

  • At least three years of leadership experience.
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in outpatient psychiatry, behavioral health administration, academic medicine, or related clinical settings.
  • Strong clinical, operational, organizational, and supervisory skills.
  • Experience working within interdisciplinary treatment settings.
  • Knowledge of regulatory, accreditation, and quality standards relevant to outpatient behavioral health services.
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills.
  • Commitment to patient-centered, recovery-oriented, and trauma-informed care.
  • Proficiency with electronic medical records and standard computer applications.
