Responsibilities
- Maintains established corporate department policies and procedures, objectives, Quality Improvement programs, and safety standards
- Prepares, teaches and evaluates certain aspects of Community Health Aide training according to the statewide curriculum guidelines, developing lesson plans, course materials and evaluation tools
- Teach Health Aides to use the Community Health Aide Manual (CHAM), to conduct complete patient encounters in acute and preventative health care, chronic disease, follow-up, disease prevention, and patient education
- Activities include providing teaching skills within the Community Health Practitioner scope of practice (IV starts, blood draw, wound care, vital signs, administration of medications, injections, sterile precautions, Community Health Aide promotion, lab skills, physical exam skills and immunizations)
- Assists in demonstrations and facilitates set-up of additional skills classes in accordance with CHA Basic Training Curriculum
- Precept students in practical patient care using the CHAM as their guide
- Participates in field requirements for session III and session IV Post Session Learning Needs (PSLN)
- Completes trip objectives based on pre-planning and submits required trip reports and documentation to appropriate programs
- Aid students and Community Health Aides with the use of the Community Health Aide Manual (I-Cham, E-Cham)
- Represents Community Health Aide Program on functional team meetings. May represent Community Health Aide Program at the state level on CHA/P related committees
- Maintain personal clinical proficiency and maintains professional skills by participating in Continuing Medical Education, designated training and CHAP certification
- May assist with administrative activities of the department
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned
Qualifications
- Positive work history
- Certified Community Health Aide Practitioner
- Two years (2) experience in providing health care within the village setting
- Must obtain Alaska Community Health Practitioner (CHP) certification
- Current ETT. EMT I preferred
- Current Alaska Driver’s License
- Clear Background check
- Proficient with Microsoft Word, Email, E-Cham, I-Cham, RAVEN, and Telehealth
- Good communication skills and basic computer knowledge
- Management and/or supervisory experience in a rural, cross-cultural setting preferred
- Bilingual Yup’ik/English, Athabascan/English or Cupik/English preferred
- Experience with adult and cross-cultural education advantageous
