Certified Rigger Journeyman

About the role

The role involves setting up rigging for construction projects and/or manufacturing plants. Responsibilities include reading and interpreting project plans, blueprints, and other written instructions, inspecting rigging equipment, attaching slings and moving materials, guiding loads during lifts, and performing daily safety checks.

Responsibilities

• Maintain proper hand signals to communicate with equipment operators.
• Read and interpret project plans, blueprints, and other written instructions.
• Inspect all rigging equipment prior to use.
• Attach slings, chokers, spreader bars, etc., to material to be moved.
• Move materials, equipment, parts, or assemblies into position using hoists, chain falls, snatch blocks, or come alongs.
• Guide loads during lifts and positioning.
• Signal equipment operator during lifts for directional or placement instructions.
• Climb structures to guide and position load.
• Detach loads and remove rigging equipment.
• Place and remove outrigger pads from Cranes and other heavy equipment.
• Complete necessary documentation, reporting, and limited office duties.
• Respond appropriately to all safety hazards and warning devices.
• Work in other crafts at levels appropriate to training and skills as requested by project supervision.
• Take direction from a higher skilled worker or foreman.
• Support project with other tasks as directed by supervision.
• Communicate with Foreman regarding any problems arising, materials required, or any hazards noted.
• Work under production schedule pressure.
• Achieve set standards of accuracy.
• Perform duties in a safe manner.

Qualifications

• 4+ years related experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
• High School diploma or GED Certification (preferred).
• Applicable Rigger training and certificate from NCCER, NCCCO, or from approved 3rd party certification body.
• Knowledgeable of MIC Health and Safety programs and project specific regulations.
• Active participation in daily toolbox meetings with crews and subcontractors.
• Read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
• Add and subtract two-digit numbers, multiply and divide with 10's and 100's, and ability to perform these operations using units weight measurement and volume.
• Common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral form.
• Ability to work within precise standards of accuracy and follow set procedures and standards.
