About the role
The Certification Specialist supports site staff and assists with compliance duties, focusing on affordable housing programs and regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities
- Assist with property program compliance requirements, including annual certification processes and agency reports.
- Conduct applicant/resident certification interviews and gather eligibility documents.
- Complete and submit certification files with a high level of accuracy for quick approval.
- Timely update internal tracking systems and respond to supervisors regarding work progress.
- Support the initial qualifying process for new construction lease-up properties, re-syndications, and acquisitions/rehab of existing properties.
- Communicate effectively with onsite staff, regional managers, and compliance team members.
- Overnight and air travel may be required.
- Enforce community rules and regulations, comply with Fair Housing Laws, and promote a professional image.
- Perform additional duties as directed by the supervisor.
Requirements
- A minimum of 2 years' experience with affordable housing programs and regulatory compliance.
- Experience with various federal and state housing programs such as LIHTC, HUD, USDA-Rural Development, HCD, HOME Funds and Bonds.
- High school diploma or equivalency certificate, with a college degree in a related field preferred.
- Affordable Housing/Tax Credit certification (C3P, HCCP, HCP-E, COS, TCS, CPO, FHC, NAHP, NAHPe, SCHM, etc.) preferred.
- Valid driver's license, good driving record, current motor vehicle insurance, and an operable vehicle meeting Driving Standards and Personal Vehicle Use policy.
- Strong computer skills (MS Office, Google Apps, property management-related software, email, internet).
Qualifications
- High School diploma or equivalency certificate.
- College degree in a related field preferred.
