About the role

The Certification Specialist supports site staff and assists with compliance duties, focusing on affordable housing programs and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with property program compliance requirements, including annual certification processes and agency reports.
  • Conduct applicant/resident certification interviews and gather eligibility documents.
  • Complete and submit certification files with a high level of accuracy for quick approval.
  • Timely update internal tracking systems and respond to supervisors regarding work progress.
  • Support the initial qualifying process for new construction lease-up properties, re-syndications, and acquisitions/rehab of existing properties.
  • Communicate effectively with onsite staff, regional managers, and compliance team members.
  • Overnight and air travel may be required.
  • Enforce community rules and regulations, comply with Fair Housing Laws, and promote a professional image.
  • Perform additional duties as directed by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years' experience with affordable housing programs and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience with rent, income, and utility allowance adjustments and updates.
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate required.
  • College degree in a related field preferred, or equivalent combination of education and work experience.
  • Affordable Housing/Tax Credit certification preferred (C3P, HCCP, HCP-E, COS, TCS, CPO, FHC, NAHP, NAHPe, SCHM, etc.).
  • Valid Driver's License, good driving record, current motor vehicle insurance, and an operable vehicle.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office, Google Apps, property management-related software, email, internet).
