About the role

The Certification Specialist supports site staff and assists with compliance duties, focusing on affordable housing programs and regulatory compliance.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with property program compliance requirements, including annual certification processes and agency reports.
  • Conduct applicant/resident certification interviews and gather eligibility documents.
  • Submit certification files to third-party auditors with high accuracy for quick approval.
  • Timely update internal tracking systems and respond to supervisors regarding work progress.
  • Support the initial qualifying process for new construction lease-up properties, re-syndications, and acquisitions/rehab of existing properties.
  • Communicate effectively with onsite staff, regional managers, and compliance team members.
  • Overnight and air travel may be required.
  • Enforce community rules and regulations, comply with fair housing laws, and promote a professional image.
  • Perform additional duties as directed by the supervisor.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 2 years' experience with affordable housing programs and regulatory compliance.
  • Experience with various affordable housing programs and HUD programs.
  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate, with a college degree in a related field preferred.
  • Affordable Housing/Tax Credit certification (C3P, HCCP, HCP-E, COS, TCS, CPO, FHC, NAHP, NAHPe, SCHM, etc.) preferred.
  • Valid driver's license, good driving record, and current motor vehicle insurance.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office, Google Apps, property management-related software).

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalency certificate.
  • College degree in a related field preferred.
  • Affordable Housing/Tax Credit certification (C3P, HCCP, HCP-E, COS, TCS, CPO, FHC, NAHP, NAHPe, SCHM, etc.) preferred.
  • Valid driver's license, good driving record, and current motor vehicle insurance.
  • Strong computer skills (MS Office, Google Apps, property management-related software).

Skills

  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in property management software.
  • Knowledge of fair housing laws and community regulations.
