About the role

The selected candidate will be offered a salary between $70,000.00 - $80,000.00.

Responsibilities

  • Direct, manage, and coordinate day-to-day case management operations within a juvenile detention facility for youth pending court proceedings or as a sentence after a conviction for either felony or misdemeanor offenses.
  • Directly supervise a unit of Case Managers and administrative clerical staff and interns, and actively participate in the development, coordination, and provision of orientation and in-service training.
  • Account for the intake of new resident’s process and procedure.
  • Conduct ongoing review of case files including progress notes.
  • Ensure direct assistance and facilitation, to/and on behalf of youth in the areas of intake and assessment, case expediting, educational advocacy, crisis intervention, individual, family and group counseling, pro-social and vocational programming, mentoring, discharge, and re-entry.
  • Collaborate with the program staff and other DYFJ facility staff to ensure appropriate documentation and participation of programming, development and maintenance of youth behavior management system, and necessary orientation and/or coaching of staff.
  • Ensure timely communication and ongoing collaboration with the youth, their families, courts, youth’s attorney and other systems and agencies involved in the life of the youth for the purpose of advising and coordinating current case status and permanency.
  • Ensure case management attendance at detention, milieu-based meetings and conferences to support the planning, development and coordination of care and behavior plans, and discharge recommendations for youth that will enable them to return to the community with reduced risk to reoffend.
  • Ensure the required completion and maintenance of adjustment reports and other documentation requested by the courts, statistical reports, data entry, internal monthly, quarterly and annual reports (on requests), and case management records that are contemporaneous, accessible and used as the basis for planning, management and evaluation.
  • In consultation with the Director of Case Management, monitor employee's performance and manages disciplinary matters as warranted including recommendations for disciplinary action for noncompliance with programmatic directives.
  • Assist the Director of Case Management as needed on ongoing case tracking, data collection, and reporting that informs the identification of admission trends, review of incidents, facility needs and capacity, policy development, special projects, and problematic operational issues.

Requirements

  • A master's degree in social work from an accredited school of social work and four years of full-time, paid professional experience in a child care institution or in group work with children in a child care setting, including two years in an administrative capacity; or
  • A master's degree from an accredited college in sociology, psychology, education, public administration or a closely related field, and five years of full-time paid professional experience as described in "1" above including two years in an administrative capacity; or
  • Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" or "2" above. However, all candidates must have two years of administrative experience in a child care setting.

  • Experience in managing and coordinating case management operations within a juvenile detention facility.
  • Ability to conduct ongoing reviews of case files and progress notes.
  • Knowledge of youth behavior management systems and ability to collaborate with staff to develop and maintain such systems.
  • Proficiency in ensuring timely communication and collaboration with various stakeholders.
  • Experience in monitoring employee performance and managing disciplinary actions.
  • Ability to assist in data collection and reporting for facility needs and capacity assessments.
