Responsibilities
- Design, administer, and evaluate training programs
- Develop and use visual aids
- Utilize Microsoft Office (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Teams, Forms)
- Lead discussions and instruct training groups
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships
- Analyze training and development needs, communicate effectively, develop, justify, and maintain annual budgetary needs
- Maintain agency weapons readiness
- Secure and maintain range use agreements with non-SCDC agencies
- Complete correctional officer basic training supervisor courses, including instructor, firearms, defensive tactics, ASHI first aid/CPR, less lethal munitions, ICSC, AAA Defensive Driving, and mental health first aid
- Obtain SC Criminal Justice Academy firearms instructor certification
- Secure a CDL license within 1 year
- Oversee all SCDC ranges, including maintenance, operations, internal and external agreements, inspections, and identifying deficiencies to ensure follow-up
- Successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- High school diploma
- Six (6) years experience in correctional, security, military, or police work, including two (2) years of supervisory experience
- A degree in criminal justice or a related field may substitute for supervisory experience year for year (associate and above = 2 years)
- Certification by the SCDC Training Academy and successful completion of the basic supervisory course within six (6) months of entry into the position
- Required teaching/training experience:
- Bachelor's degree plus two (2) years teaching/training, OR
- Associate degree plus four (4) years teaching/training experience, OR
- High school diploma plus six (6) years teaching/training experience
- Successfully acquire a CDL within 1 year
- Successfully complete the following T4T courses: Basic Defensive Driving, Defensive Tactics, Incidents, ICS for Corrections, Firearms, First Aid/CPR and AED, less lethal munitions, and respiratory fit testing
- Successfully complete a physical agility assessment and maintain performance standards for all T4Ts
