Business Development - Power Team Representative

Basic Function

The Business Development Representative is responsible for building and developing an assigned territory from the ground up by converting provided leads, responding to inbound inquiries, and conducting a high volume of proactive outbound prospecting. This role identifies and engages prospective B2B customers, qualifies opportunities, develops new accounts, and grows a sustainable sales pipeline through disciplined phone, email, and follow-up activity.

Essential Functions

  • Builds an assigned geographic or market-based territory from the ground up by identifying target accounts, establishing contact, and developing long-term customer relationships.
  • Works provided leads promptly and consistently, qualifying needs, decision-makers, timing, and sales potential.
  • Handles inbound calls and inquiries professionally while maintaining a strong daily emphasis on outbound prospecting.
  • Conducts high-volume outbound calls, emails, and follow-up activity to generate new business and advance prospects through the sales process.
  • Researches prospective customers, industries, and territory opportunities to create prioritized call lists and account-development plans.
  • Uses consultative discovery techniques to understand customer needs and recommend appropriate products, programs, and solutions.
  • Develops and maintains an active pipeline of new prospects, qualified opportunities, follow-up commitments, quotes, and new accounts.
  • Maintains accurate and timely prospect, customer, order, and opportunity information in the CRM and ERP systems.
  • Provides professional, responsive customer service and resolves questions, objections, or concerns throughout the sales process.
  • Collaborates with sales, marketing, customer service, technical support, and other departments to support lead conversion and customer onboarding.
  • Provides market feedback regarding customer needs, competitor activity, product demand, and emerging territory opportunities.
  • Keeps the supervisor informed of pipeline progress, significant opportunities, potential issues, and territory-development needs.
  • Performs related work as apparent or assigned and attends company-directed training.

Secondary Functions

  • Provides lead-quality, market, and customer feedback to marketing and other members of the sales team.
  • Supports customer events, trade shows, campaigns, and other territory-development initiatives as assigned.

Qualifications and Experience

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience in business development, phone-based sales, outbound prospecting, inside sales, customer service, distribution, or a related role.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to understand customer needs while aligning with company objectives.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and analytical abilities.
  • Demonstrated mechanical aptitude and interest in hands-on equipment or tools.
  • Proven decision-making skills and sound judgment under pressure.
  • Team-oriented with the ability to build rapport and earn the respect of colleagues.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel and Word.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills across various levels of the organization.
