About the role
The Building Security Officer II position is responsible for protecting the safety and security of persons, equipment, and facilities on state property. This position is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for customers, employees, and visitors to MVA properties.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate the weapons detection system at designated entrances to screen persons, bags, and other belongings.
- Maintain a safe and secure environment for customers, employees, and visitors to MVA properties.
- Communicate with individuals being screened through the weapons detection system, providing instructions, and ensuring compliance.
- Monitor the customer queue to ensure orders are processed and detect potential conflicts.
- Identify threats and/or objects that trigger alarms through the weapons detection system and take appropriate action in accordance with established procedures.
- Take possession of and secure any item that has been identified as a weapon or prohibited object.
- Document as required.
- Work with MVA Police to address any security issues or threats identified during the screening process.
- Use a hand-held weapons detection device on individuals who have been alerted by the primary weapons detection system.
- Monitor restricted areas of the MVA to ensure that only authorized personnel have access.
- Check public and restricted areas for suspicious conditions and monitor customers and staff to maintain order and deter crimes against persons and/or property.
- Write reports to document noteworthy incidents.
Qualifications
- Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate, and the ability to read and write.
- Experience: Two (2) years of experience in building security work.
- Licenses & Certifications: Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require operating an automobile. Employees assigned such duties must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in Maryland.
