About the role
The Building Security Officer II position is responsible for protecting the safety and security of persons, equipment, and facilities on state property. This position is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for customers, employees, and visitors to MVA properties. This position will establish a security presence by operating and maintaining weapons detection equipment.
Responsibilities
- Setting up and operating the weapons detection system at designated entrances to screen persons, bags, and other belongings.
- Maintaining a safe and secure environment for customers, employees, and visitors to MVA properties.
- Communicating with individuals being screened through the weapons detection system, providing instructions, and ensuring compliance.
- Monitoring the customer queue to ensure orders are processed and detect potential conflicts.
- Identifying threats and/or objects that trigger alarms through the weapons detection system and taking appropriate action in accordance with established procedures.
- Taking possession of and securing any item that has been identified as a weapon or prohibited object.
- Writing reports to document noteworthy incidents.
Qualifications
- Education: Graduation from a standard high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate, and the ability to read and write.
- Experience: Two (2) years of experience in building security work.
- Licenses & Certifications: Employees in this classification may be assigned duties that require operating an automobile. Employees assigned such duties must possess a motor vehicle operator's license valid in Maryland.
