About the role
The Texas Health and Human Services Commission (HHSC) seeks a Security Officer II to join a team dedicated to providing specialized care and ensuring the safety of patients, employees, and visitors at the state hospital in Kerrville.
Responsibilities
- Maintain a secure and protective environment by monitoring alarms and surveillance cameras, patrolling buildings and grounds, and handling emergency calls.
- Disseminate and coordinate emergency responses and notify facility management and law enforcement in case of emergencies or security violations.
- Assist in apprehending suspects and preparing incident reports.
- Evaluate and recommend changes to security regulations.
- Perform other duties as assigned, including participating in disaster response and COOP activation.
Requirements
- Twenty-four (24) months' work experience in security, law enforcement, or military.
- Twelve months work experience in a mental health or correctional facility preferred.
- A valid Texas driver license or obtain one within 90 days of hire.
- CPR certified or able to obtain certification within six months.
Qualifications
- Knowledge of building or premise security and surveillance equipment.
- Knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to building admissions and exits, and alarm devices.
- Skills in oral and written communication, including writing incident and investigative reports.
- Ability to communicate with potentially aggressive patients, visitors, and employees.
- Ability to patrol grounds, detect danger, and take appropriate action.
- Ability to prepare concise reports and remain calm in emergency situations.
Skills
- Administer CPR.

Pay
$3,100.00 - $4,365.66 monthly.
Schedule
Day shift, up to 5% travel, and may be eligible for additional pay for working evenings, nights, and weekends.
