Responsibilities

• Maintenance and upkeep of landscape and grounds, including equipment and related grounds equipment for the McEntire Roads and Grounds Complex.
• Mowing, edging, and maintenance of grassed areas.
• Landscape maintenance of shrub beds, pruning, clipping, and trimming trees and shrubs, as well as upkeep of parking lots, fence lines, and the retention pond at the McEntire Joint Armed Forces Readiness Center (JAFRC) and other armories and training sites in the area.
• Mixing and applying pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, and insecticides via sprays, dusts, vapors, soil incorporation, or other chemical application methods on trees, shrubs, lawns, or botanical crops.
• Performing maintenance of roads and grounds using small and lightweight equipment such as agricultural tractors, industrial lawn mowers, weed eaters, chainsaws, edgers, trimmers, blowers, and other landscaping tools as needed.
• Conducting preventive maintenance and minor repairs to vehicles and equipment.
• Transporting and hauling equipment to perform daily job functions.

Requirements

• High school diploma.
• Custodial or grounds‑keeping experience directly related to the area of employment.
• Preferred: Certification in horticultural and grounds‑maintenance.

Additional Information

• Valid South Carolina driver’s license.
• Physical ability to bend, stoop, crouch, kneel, and stand for long periods.
• Ability to climb and work from ladders, stairs, and scaffolding.
• Capability to lift and carry up to 50–75 lb.
• Ability to work in confined spaces, hot, hazardous, noisy locations, and adverse weather conditions.
• Participation in an on‑call program and willingness to work after hours as needed.
