Behavior Support Teacher (2) (BCBA preferred)

About the role

The Behavior Support Teacher develops, implements, and monitors functional behavioral interventions and specialized instruction for students experiencing social, emotional, or behavioral challenges. Working within a multi-tiered system of support (MTSS/PBIS), this position conducts Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBAs), crafts Behavior Intervention Plans (BIPs), and provides direct crisis de-escalation and skill-building instruction. The Behavior Support Teacher collaborates closely with classroom teachers, administrators, school mental health staff, and families to foster positive classroom environments that support both academic progress and behavioral growth.

Responsibilities

• Develop and write behavior intervention plans/programs, including completion of functional behavior assessments, in collaboration with pertinent team members.
• Utilize, demonstrate, and model data collection methods.
• Make recommendations regarding strategies, implementation, and changes; provide specific strategies for school staff and parents to facilitate understanding and implementation.
• Observe students in school settings; consult with pertinent school staff to ensure coordination of strategies and goals.
• Facilitate communication between school and home regarding behavior intervention and support plans.
• Work directly with students and staff to model strategies, provide direct teaching of various skills, and assess current performance and progress toward BIP and other goals targeted for data collection, analysis, and progress monitoring.
• Plan and implement social skills activities designed to target specific social skill deficit areas identified by students' IEP teams, in conjunction with school staff.
• Participate in team meetings to offer insights into student progress and needs; may also be required to write or contribute to IEP development.
• Perform other duties related to the behavioral needs of students as assigned by the Coordinator of Related Services or Director of Special Education.

Requirements

• NYS Certification in School Psychology, Education, or related area.
• BCBA preferred.
• Successful record of service as a special education teacher, school psychologist, or related services provider.
• Experience working with school-age children with Autism Spectrum Disorders and/or social, emotional, or behavioral disabilities.
• Formal training in and practical knowledge of Applied Behavior Analysis (or similar) and intervention strategies, including social skills/social thinking curriculum.
• Current/active training/certification in TCI, HWC, CPI, or similar crisis intervention strategies.

• Demonstrated expertise in one or more areas within the student services division.

Pay

$60,307 - $85,536 (BOCES Faculty Association contract).
