BEHAVIOR HEALTH FIRST RESPONDER

About the role

A-Team Allegheny County Mobile Crisis is a behavioral health crisis intervention and support program in Allegheny County. We respond directly to behavioral health crises, connecting individuals to appropriate treatment and supports.

Responsibilities

• Respond in-person to behavioral health calls received through 911 dispatch.
• Conduct behavioral health assessments for individuals in crisis.
• Safely manage and de-escalate crisis situations in community settings.
• Provide crisis counseling, psychoeducation, skills training, and supportive interventions.
• Transport individuals to safer environments, including bed-based levels of care when appropriate.
• Facilitate admissions and referrals to behavioral health and community resources.
• Collaborate with police, EMS, fire/rescue, and other first responders during behavioral health emergencies.
• Complete required clinical and administrative documentation.
• Represent the program at community events and outreach activities.
• Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• Required: Bachelor's degree in Sociology, Social Work, Psychology, Gerontology, Anthropology, Political Science, History, Criminal Justice, Theology, Nursing, Counseling, Education, or a related field; OR High School Diploma or equivalent with three years of lived experience.
• Preferred: Peer Specialist Certification.
• Experience working in behavioral health, crisis intervention, recovery support, social services, emergency response, or community-based care.

Physical Requirements

• Frequent standing, walking, bending, reaching, and lifting.
• Ability to assist individuals with limited mobility.
• Ability to lift 50 pounds or more.
• Ability to drive throughout the service area.
• Ability to work outdoors and in varying weather conditions.
• Ability to safely perform job duties in uncontrolled community environments.
