About the role

The Baker / Pastry Chef will be responsible for preparing and serving meals in a skilled nursing facility setting. The position requires understanding of therapeutic diets, food safety and sanitation, menu planning, and cooking skills.

Responsibilities

  • Nutrition and Special Diets: Understanding of therapeutic diets and basic nutrition principles for older adults and veterans.
  • Food Safety and Sanitation: Knowledge of safe food handling procedures and local, state, and federal food safety regulations.
  • Menu Planning and Food Preparation: Ability to follow standardized recipes and menus, familiar with batch cooking and portion control.
  • Cooking Skills: Proficiency in preparing meals from scratch using various cooking techniques, ability to adjust recipes for texture-modified diets.
  • Time Management: Ability to coordinate and prepare meals on time for multiple meal periods, efficient multitasking in a fast-paced kitchen environment.
  • Communication: Clear communication with dietary aides, nursing staff, and supervisors, ability to document food temperatures and meal changes accurately.
  • Teamwork: Collaborative work with dietary team members to ensure timely and accurate meal delivery.
  • Adaptability: Flexibility to adjust menus and meals based on resident needs or supply availability.
  • Attention to Detail: Accuracy in following diet orders and preventing cross-contamination for allergens.

Requirements

High School Diploma or equivalent, experience baking/ preparing foods, previous experience working in a skilled nursing facility a plus, must be ServSafe certified.
