About the role

The role is for an Associate Vice President of Financial Advocacy at Providence, a large healthcare system. This hybrid role involves legal coordination, regulatory compliance, strategic decision-making, and leadership.

Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with key stakeholders across Providence to develop and execute plans for financial assistance and health equity.
  • Lead and participate in innovation and automation initiatives to improve caregiver workflow and patient experience.
  • Ensure compliance with state and federal regulations, including IRS 501(r) compliance.
  • Develop and maintain a high-performance team by ensuring staffing levels meet budget, all staff are fully trained, certified, and empowered to achieve performance and quality targets.
  • Oversee uninsured and charity internal and external audits, acting as the subject matter expert for IRS audits concerning 501(r) requirements.
  • Develop and maintain System and state Charity Care/Financial Assistance policies, procedures, and process coordination with revenue cycle, finance, reimbursement, legal counsel, and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Responsible for resolving escalated issues, including CMS, other regulatory bodies, legal, clinical, or patient experience matters.
  • Oversee departmental budgets within leadership scope, including participation in budget development, approval responsibility, and ongoing monitoring for productivity and cost compliance.
  • Ensure the development of standard educational materials to meet state and federal requirements.
  • Responsible for developing System and state Charity Care/Financial Assistance policies, procedures, and process coordination with revenue cycle, finance, reimbursement, legal counsel, and other stakeholders as needed.
  • Oversee the Medicaid eligibility program and vendor strategy.
  • Participate in reviewing uninsured discounts with Corporate Reimbursement and Finance.
  • Develop, coordinate, facilitate, administer, and improve internal and external communication programs and initiatives involving topics such as patient registration, financial assistance, billing, as well as those impacting reputation management, compliance, and the supporting culture.

Requirements

Minimum of 10 years of experience in a revenue cycle leadership role, with at least 10 years in revenue cycle, financial assistance, and/or financial advocacy operations. 5 years of experience in state or federal regulatory matters, including investigations.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant field; Master’s Degree in Business Administration, Healthcare Administration, Public Administration, or a related field preferred.
  • Strong demonstrated ability to build relationships and coordinate with Chief Executives and Division CFOs on AG and regulatory matters.
  • Effective leadership, organizational skills, and a high degree of initiative.
  • In-depth knowledge of state and federal regulations and third-party contracts pertaining to healthcare reimbursement and collection processes.

Skills

  • Strong demonstrated ability to build relationships and coordinate with Chief Executives and Division CFOs on AG and regulatory matters.
  • Leadership: Effective leadership, organizational skills, and a high degree of initiative.

Benefits

Base pay range: $85.56 - $152.95. Additional compensation may be available for this role, such as shift differentials, standby/on-call, overtime, premiums, extra shift incentives, or bonus opportunities.

Pay

The successful candidate's placement on the wage range for this position will be determined based upon relevant job experience and other applicable factors.
