Associate Water Use Inspector
About the role
The Bureau of Customer Services seeks an experienced Associate Water Use Inspector Level I to advance to the position of Associate Water Use Inspector Level II. The selected candidate will work under the direction of the Chief Inspector, the Office Supervisor:
Responsibilities
- Direct one or more moderate-sized Borough-wide Water Use Inspection Programs by assigning, supervising, counseling and evaluating the work of inspectors of lower rank;
- Prepare in-service training programs;
- Plan and direct special programs and surveys;
- Interpret and enforce the rules and regulations of the Department;
- Review, evaluate, and advise on any submissions pertaining to the sale and use of water.
- Prepare and review reports and, when required, make special inspections;
- Direct follow-up inspections where warnings and violations have been issued based on management information service reports;
- Coordinate summons and violation submissions to the Environmental Control Board, including personnel required to appear before the Board.
Requirements
- Experience: Three years of satisfactory full-time mechanical experience in plumbing or in water use inspection, one year of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity; or
- Educational and/or experience equivalent to "1" above.

- Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above.

Physical/Environmental Factors: Climbing ladders, pits, confined spaces, lift heavy items, standing for prolonged times, all weather conditions, kneeling, mandatory overtime and weekends and may work Tuesday through Saturdays schedules.

Minimum Qualifications
- Three years of satisfactory full-time mechanical experience in plumbing or in water use inspection, one year of which shall have been in a supervisory capacity; or
- Educational and/or experience equivalent to "1" above.
Residency Requirement
New York City residency is generally required within 90 days of appointment. However, City Employees in certain titles who have worked for the City for 2 continuous years may also be eligible to reside in Nassau, Suffolk, Putnam, Westchester, Rockland, or Orange County. To determine if the residency requirement applies to you, please discuss with the agency representative at the time of interview.
