Water Use Inspector - 1
About the role
The Bureau of Customer Services (BCS) seeks qualified candidates for the position of Water Use Inspector Level -1 work relating to the repair, replacement and installation of water meters and AMR related equipment.
Responsibilities
- Performs work in the field and/or office; reads, inspects, tests, makes repair and replace water meters and Automated Meter Reading (AMR) equipment;
- Installs, repairs and replaces meter reading MTU equipment and/or remote wire;
- Serves Inspectors Warning Notices of Violations related to detected violations of the rules, regulations and policies of the City;
- Testsifies at the Environmental Control Board;
- Computes the water consumed since the last reading and compares it with similar period to detect possible waste;
- Gathers and reports information related to water and sewer use including plumbing and water meter configurations, descriptions of property and property use, and assessments of leaks and water waste;
- Maintains a Motor Vehicle Driver License valid in the State of New York.
Requirements
Climbs ladders, pits confined spaces, lifts heavy items, stands for prolonged times, works in all weather conditions, kneels, may work Tuesday through Saturday schedules.

Employees hired as Water Use Inspector - Assignment Level I must satisfactorily complete a probationary period of at least 24 months. This probationary period may be extended in accordance with the Personnel Rules and Regulations of the City of New York. Employment may be terminated at any time during the probationary period. Upon completion of two years of satisfactory service, permanent employees in Assignment Level I will advance, without further examination, to Assignment Level II.
