About the role

Optum is seeking an Associate Patient Care Coordinator to join our growing team. This role supports the delivery of care, aided by technology, to help millions of people live healthier lives.

Responsibilities

  • Greet and check in/check out patients
  • Verify patient demographics and insurance information
  • Collect outstanding balances, co-pays, deductibles, and co-insurances
  • Schedule future appointments
  • File, fax, and maintain medical records
  • Complete pending actions such as referrals and scheduling appointments
  • Perform general clerical duties
  • Communicate with patients/families, practice providers, and staff
  • Participate in performance improvement activities
  • Greet patients professionally and direct them to appropriate areas
  • Check-in patients, give medical forms, and update if needed
  • Collect payments, print receipts, and post payments
  • Scan and file patient information if needed
  • Reconcile cash drawer daily and send deposits to department manager
  • Follow Payment Security policy and procedures according to Optum Medical guidelines
  • Retrieve and sort mail into appropriate boxes
  • Sort and document any returned mail
  • Maintain a good working relationship with practice staff members
  • Perform all other duties assigned

Qualifications

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • 1+ year of customer service or healthcare related experience
  • 1+ year of computer proficiency experience in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, etc.)
  • Ability to work a 40-hour work week: Monday through Thursday 7:30 AM- 5:30 PM or until last patient leaves
  • Friday 7:30 am to 5:00 pm or until last patient leaves

Preferred Qualifications

  • 1+ year of experience working in medical office position performing duties such as scheduling appointments, checking patients in/out, insurance verification, collecting co-pays, and maintaining medical records
  • Knowledge of EMR (ECW)
  • Knowledge of insurance carriers and managed care plans
  • Knowledge of medical terminology

  • Ability to work independently and as a team, and maintain good judgment and accountability
  • Demonstrated ability to work well with healthcare providers
  • Strong organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks to meet all deadlines
  • Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to speak clearly and concisely, convey information in a manner that others can understand, and ability to understand and interpret information from others
