Associate Patient Care Coordinator
About the role
Optum NY/NJ is seeking an Associate Patient Care Coordinator to join their team in Carmel, NY. This role is part of the Optum Care Delivery team, dedicated to improving healthcare for everyone.
Responsibilities
- Greet patients, family members and guests with a friendly smile
- Obtain and update patient information, including name, address, and insurance details
- Perform insurance verification on the date of service
- Schedule appointments and procedures efficiently
- Answer incoming and outgoing calls promptly and courteously
- Follow Payment Security policy and Optum Medical guidelines
- Maintain a work queue list and complete pending actions such as referrals and scheduling appointments
- Check in and check out patients
- Document and follow up on referrals and specialist appointments
- Adhere to Optum Employee Policies and standards
- Work cohesively with the care team to achieve team goals
- Comfortable working in a high-paced environment
- Participate in care planning and coordination with the multidisciplinary team
- Schedule and track patient care activities
- Communicate effectively with patients and other healthcare professionals
- Comply with administrative policies to ensure quality of care
- Keep up-to-date with current medical requirements and maintain patient confidentiality
- Crosstrain and assist in other locations as needed
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED
- 1+ years of computer proficiency experience (e.g., using Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word)
- 1+ years of customer service or healthcare experience
- Ability to work a 40-hour work week, typically Monday through Friday, between 8:00 am to 5:30 pm
Preferred Qualifications
- 1+ years of experience in medical office positions, including scheduling, insurance verification, and maintaining medical records
- Experience with an electronic health record (EPIC)
- Knowledge of medical terminology

- Ability to work independently and maintain good judgment and accountability
- Demonstrated ability to work well with healthcare providers
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks to meet deadlines
- Ability to work well under pressure in a fast-paced environment

Pay and Schedule
The hourly pay for this role ranges from $16.15 to $28.80 per hour based on full-time employment. The schedule is Monday through Friday, typically between 8:00 am to 5:30 pm.
