About the role
Optum Pediatrics Cedarhurst, part of Optum, has an immediate opening for an Associate Patient Care Coordinator to join their team. The role is responsible for completing set processes and protocols, working cooperatively with all members of the care team, supporting the vision and mission of the organization, delivering excellent customer service, and adhering to Lean processes.
Responsibilities
- Greets patients as they arrive and manages appropriate standard wait times
- Completes check-in and check-out tasks, including insurance verification, pre-authorizations, precertification of procedures, and copying required documents
- Collections co-payments, co-insurance, and deductibles and issues receipts
- Checks in and checks out patients
- Follows Payment Security policy and procedures according to Optum Medical guidelines
- Processes walk-in patients and visitors
- Answers phones and schedules appointments
- Answers telephone calls promptly and courteously, re-directs calls as appropriate, assists callers with questions or concerns, and takes messages as needed
- Manages medical records (maintains, files/scans, prepares for schedule)
- Ensures all correspondence is scanned and/or filed, processes requests for medical records release and maintains appropriate logs, etc.
- Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with patients, employees, and the public
- Ability to cover other offices if needed
- Ability to be cross-trained as a MA (medical assistant)
- Performs all other related duties as assigned
Requirements
- High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
- 1+ years of customer service or healthcare related experience
- Ability to cover other offices if needed
- Ability to be cross-trained as MA (Medical Assistant)
- Ability to work 37.5-hour work week- Monday through Friday 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
Qualifications
- High School Diploma/GED (or higher)
- 1+ years of customer service or healthcare related experience
- Experience working with an electronic health record (EPIC)
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- 1+ years of experience working in medical office position performing duties such as scheduling appointments, checking patients in/out, insurance verification, collecting co-pays, and maintaining medical records
- Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred
