Associate Lecturer/Lecturer/Senior Lecturer of Sociology – School of Behavioral and Social Sciences (Continuous Recruitment)
This is a continuous recruitment posting for future part-time associate lecturer/lecturer/senior lecturer opportunities in sociology. Applications will be kept on file and considered for per-course assignments as needs arise. Teaching one semester does not guarantee assignment in subsequent semesters. Teaching load varies between 1-12 credits per semester. While primarily on-site, partially remote and remote opportunities may be available.
Responsibilities
- Serve as an initial point of contact for students regarding course content and expectations
- Develop instructional design and curriculum relevant to assigned courses
- Facilitate classroom, online, and/or laboratory instruction for one or more courses
- Assess student performance
About the Department
The UWSP Department of Sociology and Social Work has 13 full-time teaching faculty and staff (6 in Sociology and 7 in Social Work), approximately 165 undergraduate social work majors, and approximately 150 undergraduate sociology majors in both face-to-face and online program options. The Department also offers robust minors in Criminal Justice and Substance Use and Addiction Studies. With a commitment to social justice and applied learning, the Department emphasizes quality teaching/learning experiences, undergraduate research, community-based practicums, and service to the region. The Department is developing a Master of Social Work Program.
Requirements
- Minimum of a master's degree in sociology from an accredited college or university
- Experience with college-level instruction
- Ability to effectively instruct and engage with a wide range of students, encompassing diverse backgrounds, learning styles, and abilities
Preferred Qualifications
- Earned doctorate in sociology from an accredited college or university (ABD considered)
- Demonstrated commitment to reflective teaching practices
- Experience with teaching in multiple modalities, such as in-person, online, and hybrid
