About the role
The AMR St. Louis Emergency Communications Center is a large private EMD Communications Center serving multiple states in the Midwest. It handles call volumes for interfacility requests from hospitals and nursing homes, as well as emergency and non-emergency requests from private callers and 911 municipalities. The center serves as a secondary public safety answering point for various 911 agencies.
Responsibilities
- Understands and implements the principles of Emergency Medical Dispatch (EMD)
- Allocates EMS resources based on approved protocols and established processes
- Maintains expertise in using the computer aided dispatching (CAD) system
- Ensures complete and accurate data entry for all service requests
- Participates in and completes continuing education as outlined by the department
- Functions effectively in a potentially stressful environment
- Possesses excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Utilizes maps to identify locations relevant to transport requests and crew safety
- Maintains contact with local agencies through monitoring multiple radio channels
- Prioritizes multiple tasks while maintaining professionalism
- Communicates effectively with persons in emergency situations
- Maintains a high level of customer service
- Maintains basic computer application proficiency
- Works weekends and holidays on a scheduled rotation
Requirements
- At least 18 years old
- Proof of a high school diploma or GED
- Successfully completes a computer-aided pre-interview test
- Clear communication via telephone and radio
- Ability to listen, talk, and type simultaneously

- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Ability to prioritize multiple tasks effectively
- Proficient in basic computer applications
