Associate Attorney - Construction Law

Position Overview

We are looking for a motivated Construction Attorney with at least 2+ years of experience in construction law to handle a wide range of construction-related matters. This is an excellent opportunity for an attorney looking to grow their career within a collaborative, entrepreneurial law firm environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Represent contractors, subcontractors, owners, developers, sureties, and insurers in construction disputes, including litigation, arbitration, and mediation.
• Handle contract drafting, review, and negotiation (e.g., AIA contracts, subcontracts, and related agreements).
• Manage mechanics lien claims, payment disputes, delay claims, defective work claims, and change order disputes.
• Advise clients on risk management, insurance coverage issues related to construction projects, and compliance with New York Labor Law.
• Conduct discovery, motion practice, depositions, and trial preparation.
• Collaborate with the firm's insurance coverage and general litigation teams on construction defect, bodily injury, and property damage matters.
• Provide proactive legal counsel to help clients avoid disputes and manage construction projects effectively.

Qualifications

• J.D. from an accredited law school and admission to the New York Bar (admission in additional jurisdictions such as NJ, CT, or PA is a plus).
• Minimum 2+ years of relevant experience in construction law (experience with New York construction litigation strongly preferred).
• Well-versed in construction contracts, lien law, insurance issues in construction, and New York-specific construction statutes.
• Strong litigation skills and comfort with courtroom appearances.
• Excellent written and oral communication abilities.
• Ability to manage multiple matters and work independently while contributing to a team environment.
• Detail-oriented with strong analytical and negotiation skills.
