Assistant Program Coordinator Trainee - Multi-Cultural Student Resource Center
Temporary, full-time trainee-level appointment (1-year limited duration; possibility for reclassification into the SSP IB classification for an additional 1-year appointment).
About the role
The Assistant Program Coordinator Trainee (APCT) works under the lead direction of the Serna Center Coordinator and with close supervision of the Director, Multi-Cultural Center. During the 12-month trainee period, the APCT develops and demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to function under general supervision at the SSP IB working level. The incumbent assists the Director in delivering integrated support services and programming aimed at improving students’ academic success, leadership, professional development, retention, and enrichment of the overall student experience. This position serves as a mentor and advisor to students, and works with interns and student assistants to support staff who design and deliver programs for graduate and undergraduate students to promote and raise awareness around student excellence through events, written materials, and representation on campus-wide committees.
Responsibilities
- Assist in the delivery of support services and programming to enhance students’ academic success, leadership, and professional development.
- Serve as a mentor and advisor to students.
- Support interns and student assistants in designing and delivering programs for graduate and undergraduate students.
- Promote and raise awareness of student excellence through events, programs, written materials, and campus-wide committee representation.
- Participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences, and interviews.
- Gather and analyze data, draw valid conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations.
- Write clear and concise reports.
- Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and faculty.
- Work occasional evenings and weekends as needed by the department.
Requirements
- Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field. Specialized experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
- Working knowledge of the basic principles of individual and group behavior.
- Working knowledge of research and observation techniques for recording, classifying, and interpreting factual information.
- Working knowledge of the techniques and methods of interviewing.
- Ability to gather and analyze data, reason logically, and draw valid conclusions.
- Ability to participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences, and interviews.
- Ability to clearly express ideas and recommendations orally and in writing.
- Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents.
Preferred Qualifications
- Ability to understand and navigate a dynamic campus culture with diverse populations.
- Competency in cross-cultural communication.
- Demonstrated success working on teams and supporting colleagues on collaborative initiatives.
- Willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, with advanced notice.
Pay
$4,150 per month (anticipated hire at the minimum of the classification salary range). CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,150 – $5,076 per month.
Schedule
Full-time, Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with occasional evenings and weekends dependent on department needs.
