About the role

The Assistant Program Coordinator Trainee (APCT) is a trainee-level position working under the lead direction of the APIDA Center Coordinator and with close supervision of the Director. During the 12-month trainee period, the APCT will develop and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities required to function under general supervision at the SSP IB working level. The incumbent assists the APIDA Center Coordinator in delivering integrated support services and programming aimed at improving students’ academic success, leadership, professional development, retention, and overall student experience. This position serves as a mentor and advisor to students and collaborates with interns and student assistants to support staff in designing and delivering programs that promote and raise awareness of student excellence through events, written materials, and representation on campus-wide committees.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the APIDA Center Coordinator in delivering support services and programming for student academic success, leadership, and professional development.
  • Serve as a mentor and advisor to students.
  • Work with interns and student assistants to design and deliver programs for graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Promote and raise awareness of student excellence through events, written materials, and campus-wide committee representation.
  • Participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences, and interviews.
  • Gather and analyze data, draw valid conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and faculty.
  • Work occasional weekend and evening hours as needed by the department.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field.
  • Working knowledge of the basic principles of individual and group behavior.
  • Working knowledge of research and observation techniques for recording, classifying, and interpreting factual information.
  • Working knowledge of the techniques and methods of interviewing.
  • Ability to gather and analyze data, reason logically, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences, and interviews.
  • Ability to clearly express ideas and recommendations orally and in writing.
  • Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to understand and navigate a dynamic campus culture with diverse populations.
  • Competency in cross-cultural communication.
  • Demonstrated success working on teams and supporting colleagues on collaborative initiatives.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, with advanced notice.

Pay

Anticipated hiring range: $4,150 per month (minimum of the classification salary range). CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,150 – $5,076 per month.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with occasional weekend and evening hours dependent on department needs.
