Temporary, full-time trainee position (1-year limited duration) with possibility for reclassification into the SSP IB classification for an additional 1-year appointment.

About the role

The Assistant Program Coordinator Trainee (APCT) is a trainee-level appointment working under the lead direction of the Parents & Families Program Coordinator and with close supervision of the Director. During the 12-month trainee period, the APCT is expected to develop and demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities to function under general supervision at the SSP IB working level.

The incumbent assists the Program Coordinator through clearly defined efforts to deliver integrated support services and programming aimed at improving students’ academic success, leadership, professional development, retention, and enrichment of the overall student experience. This position will serve as a mentor and advisor to students. In addition, the APCT will work with interns and student assistants to support staff who design and deliver programs for graduate and/or undergraduate students to promote and raise awareness around student excellence through events/programs, written materials, and representation on campus-wide committees.

The Women’s Resource Center (WRC) at Sacramento State is a safe space where women-identifying students and their allies can access programming and resources from a feminist lens that centers on self-advocacy, women’s health, and career and leadership development. The WRC serves as a holistic hub for empowering and supporting students in their academic, personal, and professional journeys.

Responsibilities

  • Assist the Program Coordinator in delivering integrated support services and programming to improve students’ academic success, leadership, professional development, retention, and overall student experience.
  • Serve as a mentor and advisor to students.
  • Work with interns and student assistants to support staff in designing and delivering programs for graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Promote and raise awareness around student excellence through events, programs, written materials, and representation on campus-wide committees.
  • Gather and analyze data; reason logically, draw valid conclusions, and make appropriate recommendations.
  • Participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences, and interviews.
  • Clearly express ideas and recommendations orally and in writing.
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and faculty.
  • Commit to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment with diverse colleagues and constituents.

Requirements

  • Equivalent to graduation from a four-year college or university in one of the behavioral sciences, public or business administration, or a job-related field. Specialized experience may substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • Working knowledge of the basic principles of individual and group behavior.
  • Working knowledge of research and observation techniques for recording, classifying, and interpreting factual information.
  • Working knowledge of the techniques and methods of interviewing.
  • Ability to gather and analyze data, reason logically, and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to participate in and contribute to group meetings, conferences, and interviews.
  • Ability to clearly express ideas and recommendations orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff, and faculty.
  • Commitment to maintaining a welcoming and inclusive work environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ability to understand and navigate a dynamic campus culture with diverse populations.
  • Competency in cross-cultural communication.
  • Demonstrated success working on teams and supporting colleagues on collaborative initiatives.
  • Willingness to work irregular hours, including evenings and weekends, with advanced notice.

Pay

Anticipated hiring range: $4,150 per month (minimum of the classification salary range). CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,150 – $5,076 per month.

Schedule

Full-time, Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m., with occasional weekend and evening hours dependent on department needs.
