Assistant Professor of Biology
About the Role
The Austin College Department of Biology invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track Assistant Professor of Biology to begin August 2027. We seek a broadly trained biologist who will contribute to our physiological and organismal biology curriculum. Austin College provides startup funds, and additional internal funding is available for mentoring summer research students.
Responsibilities
- Teach one semester of our introductory biology sequence aligned with the applicant's area of expertise
- Teach Anatomy & Physiology II (systems physiology)
- Teach upper-level courses in biology that align with the individual's interests and departmental needs
- Carry a standard teaching load of 12 contact hours per semester (typically two courses, each including a lecture and accompanying lab)
- Teach a January Term course every other year
- Engage undergraduates in research through coursework and/or research projects
- Engage in campus service and mentor students from their first year through graduation
Qualifications
- Earned a PhD by August 2027
- Demonstrated strong commitment to innovative teaching in a liberal arts environment
- Ability to foster participation from a diverse student body
- Must be currently authorized to work in the United States for any employer
About the Department and College
Austin College is a leading national private liberal arts college located north of Dallas in Sherman, Texas, and is a Hispanic-serving Institution (HSI). The Austin College Biology Department has modern teaching and research facilities and makes use of several college-owned properties for off-site field research and teaching. The Sneed Prairie Restoration Site provides a unique opportunity for candidates interested in conducting field-based teaching or research projects in the context of a long-term ecosystem restoration project. The Department has modern lab-based research facilities that include tissue culture capabilities and in-house capabilities for third-generation long read sequencing. The Department also maintains a USDA licensed vivarium and dedicated anatomy and physiology teaching and research spaces.
