About the role
The School of Information at San José State University is seeking an Assistant Professor - Artificial Intelligence (AI) in LIS. The position will begin in August 2025 and will focus on AI and library & information science.
Responsibilities
- Assisting with the design, development, and release of a new interdisciplinary minor in AI for undergraduates.
- Helping lead the iSchool in the AI LIS teaching and research areas.
- Assisting with the development and implementation of a new 4+1 accelerated program (a 4 year undergraduate program combining 1 year of graduate work to emerge with both a bachelor's and a master's degree).
Requirements
- PhD in Library and Information Science or a related field.
- Experience in AI and its applications in library and information science.
- Strong commitment to teaching and mentoring students.
- Ability to contribute to the development of new interdisciplinary minors and accelerated programs.
Qualifications
- Research expertise in AI and its impact on library and information science.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.
- Ability to teach a variety of courses including but not limited to AI in Libraries, Data Analytics, and Research Methods.
Skills
- Expertise in machine learning and data analytics.
- Experience in developing educational materials and curricula.
- Strong interpersonal and organizational skills.

Pay
- Salary range: $60,000 - $80,000 per year.
