About the role
The School of Information Studies (SOIS) at the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee invites applications for a full-time tenure track Assistant Professor position. This position is part of the university's strategic focus on AI and data science.
Responsibilities
- Prepare future information professionals to understand and apply AI-based technologies and techniques in various information organizations, including libraries, archives, and private organizations, to solve real-world problems.
- Contribute to the scholarship of the School and College through externally funded research.
- Teach both face-to-face and online classes at graduate and undergraduate levels, focusing on AI.
- Develop courses focused on AI at both graduate and undergraduate levels.
- Mentor graduate students.
- Contribute to service in accordance with the university policy.
- Participate in school, college, and university activities.
Requirements
- PhD in Information Science, Library Science, or a related field.
- Research, teaching, and impact in the field of AI in IST/LIS, emphasizing on generative AI, NLP, LLMs, deep learning, ML frameworks, human-AI interaction, and AI in applied contexts such as information retrieval, information organization, recommendation systems, digital material preservation, data science, knowledge management, user behavior analysis, sentiment analysis, and cybersecurity/anomaly detection.
- Experience in teaching AI-related courses at the graduate and undergraduate levels.
- Ability to conduct externally funded research.
- Strong commitment to mentoring graduate students.
