About the role

The Dedicated to Enrichment, Achievement, and Persistence (DEAP) program serves over 700 students, with a high number of them identifying as first-generation and low-income students on our campus. The Assistant Director manages and coordinates academic and career support services, including First-Year Seminar courses, and oversees the DEAP Lounge.

Responsibilities

  • Ensures the provision of excellent college academic counseling and oversight of the program's academic procedures and policies.
  • Affords leadership and coordination for all services and initiatives related to academic and career support offered by the DEAP program.
  • Serves as a liaison to IU Indianapolis departments, such as the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, Office of Orientation Services, and Academic and Career Development.
  • Represents DEAP at campus meetings and serves as liaison to key IU Indianapolis offices.
  • Manages and coordinates the day-to-day operations of the DEAP Lounge, including monitoring and reporting usage data, implementing passive programming initiatives, and leading the hiring, training, and supervision of Program Specialists and Peer Academic Coaches.
  • Plays a role in developing and implementing programs and initiatives that offer support for students in crisis, facing adversity or challenges, or who belong to an under-represented or minority student population.
  • Participates in planning, implementing, and assessing large-scale DEAP signature programs, including Family Reunion, Networking Night, End-of-Year Celebration, and Senior Brunch.
  • Provides strategic leadership to the instructional team for DEAP First-Year Seminar courses by designing, implementing, and continuously refining an engaging, outcomes-driven curriculum and high-impact enrichment experiences.
  • Interfaces directly with students by attending student programming events, advising student organization leaders, meeting one-on-one to discuss support needs, and gathering satisfaction feedback from student participants to implement into future student services initiatives and objectives.
  • Measures and evaluates effectiveness of student support initiatives against projected outcomes; regularly prepares reports on impact to students and budget and presents to stakeholders on effectiveness and to secure funding for initiatives moving forward.
  • Serves on committees and performs student support research across the field of higher education and at peer institutions to identify and recommend best practices.
  • Plans and coordinates communications for student support initiatives to ensure student participation, inclusion, and engagement.
  • Makes process recommendations to manager for improved delivery of service.
  • Serves on various campus or cross-functional committees to share student support best practices.

Qualifications

  • Required: Bachelor's degree in education, public affairs, public health, counseling, social work, business, or a related field.
  • Preferred: Master's degree in higher education student affairs or a related field.
  • Required: 5 years in student services, higher education, social work, counseling, law, or a related field.
  • PREFERRED: 3 years of supervisory and program management experience with students from low-income, first-generation, and minoritized backgrounds.
  • Skills: Proficient written and verbal communication skills; Maintains a high degree of professionalism; Demonstrates time management and priority setting skills; Demonstrates a high commitment to quality; Possesses flexibility to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment; Seeks to acquire knowledge in area of specialty; Highly thorough and dependable; Demonstrates a high level of accuracy, even under pressure; Possesses a high degree of initiative; Ability to influence internal and/or external constituents; Demonstrates ability to maintain confidential information; Ability to simultaneously handle multiple priorities; Demonstrates excellent judgment and decision making skills; Demonstrates customer service skills; Knowledge of student development, counseling, or career development theories and practices; Knowledge of current needs and trends of diverse student populations; Ability to advise students individually and in groups on student-related matters; Ability to build strong partnerships with students and other university departments.

Pay

$56,000.00 - 59,000.00 annually

Schedule

Sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
