About the role
The Assistant Director manages and coordinates academic and career support services for the DEAP program at Indiana University Indianapolis. They are responsible for developing and implementing programs that support students from diverse backgrounds, particularly those from low-income and first-generation families.
Responsibilities
- Ensures the provision of excellent college academic counseling and oversight of the program's academic procedures and policies.
- Hires and supervises professional and student staff.
- Manages academic services and support for the DEAP program by providing comprehensive academic coaching and support; managing academic policies and procedures; designing and implementing targeted student success interventions; coordinating workshops, tutoring, and campus referrals; and leading data collection and analysis to inform retention and student success strategies.
- Manages the DEAP First-year Application onboarding process for incoming first-year students, including planning, coordinating, and executing DEAP Summer Live sessions and the DEAP Pinning Ceremony.
- Provides strategic leadership to the instructional team for DEAP First-Year Seminar courses by designing, implementing, and continuously refining an engaging, outcomes-driven curriculum and high-impact enrichment experiences.
- Represents DEAP at campus meetings and serves as liaison to key IU Indianapolis offices, including Undergraduate Admissions, Orientation Services, and the University College Office of Academic and Career Development.
- Manages and coordinates the day-to-day operations of the DEAP Lounge, including monitoring and reporting usage data, implementing passive programming initiatives, and leading the hiring, training, and supervision of Program Specialists and Peer Academic Coaches.
- Develops and implements programs and initiatives that offer support for students in crisis, facing adversity or challenges, or who belong to an under-represented or minority student population.
- Plays a role in planning and coordinating communications for student support initiatives to ensure student participation, inclusion, and engagement.
Qualifications
- Required: Bachelor's degree in education, public affairs, public health, counseling, social work, business, or a related field.
- Preferred: Master's degree in higher education student affairs or a related field.
- Required: 5 years in student services, higher education, social work, counseling, law, or a related field.
- PREFERRED: 3 years of supervisory and program management experience with students from low-income, first-generation, and minoritized backgrounds.

Pay
$56,000.00 - 59,000.00 annually
Schedule
Sedentary work as well as periods of time moving around an office environment and the campus.
