About the role
Pennoni is seeking an ASNT Level III/Inspection Supervisor to administer and maintain our nondestructive testing (NDT) program. This role supports Pennoni’s nondestructive testing and QA/QC inspection program, including training, testing, and certifying NDT Technicians, performing NDT, reviewing and writing NDT procedures, and supervising inspection personnel to ensure compliance with applicable standards and specifications.
Responsibilities
- Administer and maintain Pennoni’s nondestructive testing program, providing leadership and oversight for QA inspection staff supporting DOT and commercial client projects at offsite fabrication facilities and job sites.
- Maintain and administer the NDT program, including training, testing, and certifying NDT technicians.
- Review and write NDT procedures and provide technical guidance to inspectors.
- Perform shop audits and support assignments during scheduling conflicts.
- Conduct site visits to monitor performance and progress.
- Support the onboarding, training, and development of inspection personnel.
- Serve as a key technical resource, providing guidance on nondestructive testing, welding procedures, and fabrication/welding-related issues.
- Participate in prefabrication meetings and contribute to QA/QC planning and procedures.
- Mentor inspection staff to promote consistency and technical excellence across projects.
- Act as a liaison between Pennoni, clients, and fabrication facilities to ensure clear communication.
- Coordinate responses to client comments, audits, and technical inquiries to maintain strong client relationships and project alignment.
- Support staffing and resource planning efforts.
- Confirm the accuracy and compliance of project documentation and maintain internal quality control records.
Requirements
- High school diploma.
- Minimum of eight years of nondestructive testing, welding, and fabrication-related experience, including one to three years in a supervisory capacity.
- Demonstrated experience maintaining and administering an NDT program.
- ASNT Level III certifications (UT, MT, RT, PT).
- AWS Certified Welding Inspector (CWI).
- AMPP Basic Coatings Inspector certification.
- OSHA 10 safety training.
- Strong technical knowledge of ASNT requirements, weld specifications, and related codes such as AASHTO/AWS D1.5, D1.1 welding codes, and the New York State Steel Construction Manual (NYSSCM).
- Practical experience in structural steel fabrication and inspection.
- Proven leadership and team management abilities.
- Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and effective verbal and written communication.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and Adobe applications.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule in a hybrid environment (field assignments and home office responsibilities).
- Approximately 50% travel to fabrication facilities, driven by NDT Technician geographic location, fabrication schedules, and project demands.

Schedule
This position requires a flexible schedule in a hybrid environment, with approximately 50% travel to fabrication facilities. Travel reimbursements generally follow GSA guidelines.
