Schedule
Day Shift; 40 hours/week Monday–Friday. Occasional weekend coverage.
Requirements
- Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) for Nurse Practitioners or Bachelor of Science (BS) for Physician Assistants
- Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) Certification or enrollment in Post Master’s ACNP program within one year of hire
- Physician Assistant-Certified (PA-C)

About the Role
The Gen Surgery/Trauma Inpatient APP works within the adult progressive care and acute care areas and is an integral member of a multidisciplinary health care team. The APP functions primarily managing acutely ill adults for the Emergency General Surgery Team and serves as a resource throughout UKHC for consultation. The APP is generally on a service-aligned team and manages patient care from admission to discharge. In some instances, the APP may have responsibilities for this same patient population as they return for follow-up in the outpatient setting.
The APP has a strong foundation in evidence-based practice and education and is responsible for ensuring safe quality care. The APP demonstrates an advanced level of medical and nursing knowledge, clinical and technical competency, sound clinical judgment, professionalism as it relates to interpersonal and general communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and takes responsibility for ongoing professional development and competency validation.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience in trauma surgery preferred but not required
