APP Gen Surgery/Trauma ICU/UKHC
Job Summary
The Trauma/Gen Surgery ICU APP works within the adult ICU/progressive care/acute care areas and is an integral member of a multidisciplinary health care team. The APP functions primarily in managing critically and acutely ill adults in the ICU and serves as a resource throughout UKHC for intensive care interventions. The APP is generally on a service-aligned team and manages the day-to-day patient care in the ICU. In some instances, the APP may have responsibilities for this same patient population as they return for follow-up in the outpatient setting. The APP has a strong foundation in evidence-based practice and education and is responsible for ensuring an environment of safe, quality care.
The APP demonstrates advanced medical and nursing knowledge, clinical and technical competency, sound clinical judgment, professionalism as it relates to interpersonal and general communication skills, timely and compliant documentation, and takes responsibility for ongoing professional development and competency validation.
Physical Requirements
The physical requirements for this position include regularly sitting, standing, walking, with some pushing, pulling, and/or lifting objects weighing up to 10lbs and occasional pushing, pulling, and/or lifting objects up to 50lbs.
Shift
Day shift; 40-hours per week; night shift coverage as needed.

Required Education
- MSN for Nurse Practitioners
- BS for Physician Assistants
Required Related Experience
- No experience required.
Required License/Registration/Certification
- Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) with Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (ACNP) Certification or enrollment in Post Master’s ACNP program within one year of hire
- Physician Assistant-Certified (PA-C)
- Are you currently licensed by the state of Kentucky as a Nurse Practitioner or eligible to obtain license within the next nine months, or are you currently certified as a Physician Assistant by the (NCCPA) National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants or eligible to obtain certification within the next nine months?
- For Nurse Practitioner applicants, do you have a current certification in Acute Care, or are eligible to obtain this certification within one year from date of hire?
