Air Export Specialist
About the role
The Air Export Specialist at JAS is responsible for facilitating the movement of products, equipment, and materials out of the country via air freight. This role ensures that air freight complies with organizational policies and procedures, as well as relevant local, country, and international laws and processes. The specialist provides customer service to exporting customers and accounting agents, performs bookings, provides rates, documents production, and resolves issues.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and coordinate necessary documentation for efficient, cost-effective, and lawful execution of all air export activities.
- Cargo pick-up and transfer coordination, monitoring status.
- Communication with export-related authorities, customers, and suppliers in relevant territories and countries.
- Management and updating of carrier and vendor rates, obtaining spot rates when necessary.
- Timely communication and correspondence with overseas agents and clients, including pre-alerts, rate requests, and shipment status tracking.
- Tracking shipments and updating customers and agents on status.
- Creation and maintenance of customer files.
- Customer invoicing and payable approval.
- Auditing files for accuracy and completion.
- Professional interaction with coworkers.
- Completion of US Customs AES (Automated Export System) filings.
- Management of JAS operational and customer KPIs (Key Performance Indicators).
- Assistance to other departments/divisions as needed or requested by department or branch manager.
Qualifications
- Minimum 2-5 years’ experience handling Air Exports shipments or a combination of education and expertise required.
- Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
- Strong computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite.
- Detail-oriented, able to multitask and meet deadlines.
- Self-motivated, able to work in a team and independently.
- Knowledge of all customs laws, practices, and procedures.
- Able to perform essential duties without posing a "direct threat" to health or safety.
- Positive and effective interactions with co-workers, subordinates, and supervisors.
- Geographical knowledge is preferred.
Education/Experience
- High School Diploma or GED.
- Experience handling Air Exports shipments or a combination of education and expertise required.
- Cargowise experience is a plus.
- Bilingual is preferred.
- Experience in the freight forwarding industry is a plus.
- Knowledge of US Exports Compliance is preferred.
Environment
100% performed in a climate-controlled internal office environment. Travel will be (up to__ %) required in support of the position’s responsibilities. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers to feel and handle, reach with arms and hands, talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to stop, kneel, and crouch, lift weight or exert a force up to a maximum of 25 pounds. This position requires the employee to frequently work in a fluid, fast-paced environment.
