Air Export Specialist

About the role

JAS is an international, non-asset-based supply chain services and solutions company. Our services include air and ocean freight forwarding, contract logistics, customs brokerage, distribution, inbound logistics, truckload brokerage, and other supply chain management services, including consulting, coordination of purchase orders, and customized management services.

The Air Export Specialist facilitates the movement of products, equipment, and materials out of the country via air freight, ensuring compliance with organizational policies and relevant local, country, and international laws. This role provides customer service to exporting customers and accounting agents, performing bookings, providing rates, document production, and problem resolution.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and coordinate necessary documentation for efficient, cost-effective, and lawful execution of all air export activities.
• Coordinate cargo pick-up and transfer while monitoring status.
• Communicate with export-related authorities, customers, and suppliers to ensure efficient, positive, and lawful relations.
• Manage and update carrier and vendor rates; obtain spot rates when necessary.
• Correspond with overseas agents and clients in a timely manner (e.g., pre-alerts, rate requests, shipment status).
• Track shipments and update customers and agents on status.
• Create and maintain customer files.
• Provide customer invoicing and payable approval.
• Audit files to ensure accuracy and completion.
• Complete US Customs AES (Automated Export System) filings.
• Manage JAS operational and customer Key Performance Indicators (KPIs).
• Assist other departments/divisions as needed or when requested by department or branch manager.

Requirements

• Minimum 2-5 years’ experience handling air export shipments or a combination of education and expertise.
• Excellent written and verbal communication and organizational skills.
• Strong computer skills, including Microsoft Office Suite.
• Detail-oriented, able to multitask and meet deadlines.
• Self-motivated, able to work in a team and independently.
• Knowledge of customs laws, practices, and procedures.
• Able to perform essential duties without posing a “direct threat” to health or safety.
• Able to interact positively and effectively with co-workers, subordinates, and supervisors.
• High School Diploma or GED.

Preferred Qualifications

• Geographical knowledge.
• Cargowise experience.
• Bilingual skills.
• Experience in the freight forwarding industry.
• Knowledge of US Exports Compliance.

Work Environment

This role is 100% performed in a climate-controlled internal office environment under normal office conditions. Travel may be required in support of the position’s responsibilities.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands and fingers to handle, reach with arms and hands, talk, and hear. The employee may frequently stop, kneel, crouch, and lift weights or exert force up to a maximum of 25 pounds. The position requires working in a fluid, fast-paced environment.

Pay

The base hourly rate for this position is $25–30/HR. Individual pay within this range is determined based on factors including relevant experience, education, skills, and performance.
