About the role

Provide nursing care to a defined group of patients, adhering to Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington ambulatory Nursing Care Standards, the Nursing Code of Ethics, and Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington policies. Coordinate and facilitate healthcare services for patients across the healthcare delivery system. The Urgent Care RN will work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment similar to a free-standing emergency department, serving patients of all ages (neonates to geriatrics) with a wide range of chief complaints, including neurological, cardiac, and minor injury or illness.

Responsibilities

  • Use the nursing process to assess the ongoing nursing care needs of patients and develop a written plan of care.
  • Determine care priorities based on patient needs and available resources.
  • Provide safe and competent nursing interventions, including telephone consultation for patients and families.
  • Evaluate patient responses to care and modify the plan of care in collaboration with the healthcare team.
  • Demonstrate understanding of the physiologic and psychological effects of aging and tailor care to meet the needs of specific age populations (neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric).
  • Collaborate and communicate with healthcare team members to plan and implement care.
  • Assess needs for patient hospitalization, initiate nursing admission database, and coordinate discharge planning.
  • Communicate effectively with patients and families about psychosocial, cultural, and emotional needs.
  • Orient patients and families to nursing services and access points within the healthcare system.
  • Identify patient educational needs, develop educational components for care plans, and provide teaching/counseling aligned with learning needs.
  • Encourage patient compliance with therapeutic and medical regimens using scientific and behavioral knowledge.
  • Assess patient lifestyle risk factors and integrate health promotion and preventive care into ongoing assessments.
  • Promote patient self-care responsibility for meeting health needs.
  • Adhere to documentation, safety, and infection control standards.
  • Identify learning needs and participate in continuing education, staff orientation, and student education.
  • Collaborate in performance reviews and quality assurance activities.
  • Participate in professional activities, nursing research, and incorporate research findings into practice.
  • Maintain professional work habits and appearance consistent with Kaiser Permanente policies.

Requirements

  • Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
  • Washington state Registered Nurse License or Compact License (Registered Nurse) at hire.
  • Basic Life Support certification at hire.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 6 months of hire.
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) at hire.
  • Communication, problem-solving, leadership, and decision-making skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Ambulatory care nursing experience.
  • Primary nursing or case-management experience.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
  • Emergency department nursing experience.
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) at hire.

Schedule

Alternating weeks: Week 1 (Sunday, Monday), Week 2 (Tuesday, Wednesday, Saturday).

Shift: Day, 7:00 AM – 7:30 PM.

Scheduled weekly hours: 30.

Work location: Onsite at Bellevue Medical Center.

Pay

Pay range: $44.34 - $80.99 per hour.
