About the role

Provide nursing care to a defined group of patients, adhering to Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington ambulatory Nursing Care Standards, the Nursing Code of Ethics, and Kaiser policies. Coordinate and facilitate healthcare services for patients across the healthcare delivery system. The Urgent Care RN will work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment similar to a free-standing emergency department, serving patients of all ages (neonates to geriatrics) with a wide range of chief complaints, including neurological, cardiac, and minor injury or illness.

Responsibilities

• Use the nursing process to assess ongoing nursing care needs for a defined group of patients, including nursing diagnosis and care planning.
• Develop and implement a written plan of care, assisting patients and families in setting health care goals.
• Determine priorities of patient care based on essential needs and available resources.
• Provide safe and competent nursing interventions, including telephone consultation and patient/family education.
• Evaluate patient responses to care and modify the plan of care in collaboration with the healthcare team.
• Demonstrate understanding of the physiologic and psychological effects of aging and adapt care for specific age populations (Neonatal, Pediatric, Adolescent, Geriatric).
• Collaborate and communicate with healthcare team members to plan and implement care.
• Assess needs for hospitalization, initiate nursing admission database, and coordinate discharge planning.
• Communicate effectively with patients and families regarding psychosocial, cultural, and emotional needs.
• Orient patients to nursing services, the Consumer Bill of Rights, and access to care.
• Identify and address patient educational needs, providing teaching and counseling aligned with the medical plan of care.
• Assess patient lifestyle risk factors and integrate health promotion and preventive care into the nursing plan.
• Promote patient self-care responsibility for meeting health needs.
• Adhere to documentation, safety, infection control, and reporting standards.
• Identify learning needs and participate in continuing education, staff orientation, and performance reviews.
• Participate in quality assurance activities, professional development, and nursing research.
• Maintain professional work habits and appearance consistent with Kaiser policies.

Requirements

• Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
• Washington state Registered Nurse License (or Compact License) at hire.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification at hire.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 6 months of hire.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) at hire.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, leadership, and decision-making skills.

Preferred Qualifications

• Ambulatory care or emergency department nursing experience.
• Primary nursing or case-management experience.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) at hire.

Schedule

36 hours per week, rotating schedule: Week 1 (Sun, Thu, Fri), Week 2 (Thu, Fri, Sat).
