About the role

Provide nursing care to a defined group of patients, adhering to Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington ambulatory Nursing Care Standards, the Nursing Code of Ethics, and Kaiser Foundation Health Plan of Washington policies. Coordinate and facilitate healthcare services for patients across the healthcare delivery system. The Urgent Care RN will work in a fast-paced, high-acuity environment similar to a free-standing emergency department, serving patients of all ages (neonates to geriatrics) with a wide range of chief complaints, including neurological, cardiac, and minor injury or illness.

Responsibilities

• Use the nursing process to assess ongoing care needs for a defined group of patients, including nursing diagnosis and care planning.
• Develop and implement individualized plans of care in collaboration with patients, families, and the healthcare team.
• Determine care priorities based on patient needs and available resources.
• Provide safe, competent nursing interventions and educate patients and families about care.
• Offer telephone consultation to patients and families.
• Evaluate patient responses to care and modify plans as needed.
• Assess, plan, implement, and evaluate care for specific age populations (neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, geriatric).
• Collaborate with healthcare team members to coordinate care, including hospitalization and discharge planning.
• Communicate effectively with patients and families about psychosocial, cultural, and emotional needs.
• Orient patients to nursing services, healthcare team roles, and the Consumer Bill of Rights and Responsibilities.
• Assess patient educational needs and provide teaching/counseling aligned with medical care plans.
• Promote patient compliance with therapeutic regimens and self-care responsibility.
• Integrate health promotion and preventive care into patient assessments.
• Adhere to documentation, safety, infection control, and professional standards.
• Identify learning needs and participate in continuing education, staff orientation, and performance reviews.
• Participate in quality assurance, professional activities, and nursing research.
• Maintain professional appearance and work habits per KFHPW policies.

Requirements

• Associate degree in Nursing from an accredited program.
• Washington state Registered Nurse License (or Compact License) at hire.
• Basic Life Support certification at hire.
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) within 6 months of hire.
• Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) at hire.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, leadership, and decision-making skills.

Qualifications

Preferred:

• Ambulatory care or emergency department nursing experience.
• Primary nursing or case-management experience.
• Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN).
• Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) at hire.

Schedule

Alternating weeks: Week 1: Sunday, Thursday, Friday; Week 2: Thursday, Friday, Saturday.

Shift: Evening (1:00 PM – 1:30 AM).

Scheduled weekly hours: 36.

Job type: Part-time, standard worker location (on-site).

Pay

Pay range: $44.34 – $80.99 per hour. Actual base pay determined at offer based on labor market data, internal alignment, and candidate qualifications (experience, education, certifications, skills, and geographic location).
