About the role

The Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (“APRN”) delivers patient-family centered care in a culturally competent and compassionate manner, utilizing and promoting evidence-based standards of quality, safety, and service while ensuring population-specific patient care. The APRN provides and directs hands-on care to patients, practicing within the Scope of Practice of the Florida Board of Nursing requirements, standards of care, and institutional policies and procedures. The APRN performs all steps of the care process, monitors the quality of care provided, and demonstrates expertise and mastery towards patient care, aligning with the philosophy, mission, and objectives of the health system. The role supports the UHealth mission to be a state-of-the-art academic medical center by participating in transforming patient care through innovative research.

• Department-Specific Functions
  • Participates in patient rounds with surgical teams (e.g., Head and Neck, Surgical Oncology, Neurological, Orthopaedic, Cardiac, Thoracic, Urology).
  • Completes histories, physical examinations, and reviews medical records.
  • Interprets diagnostic tests and formulates risk assessments.
  • Documents in electronic medical records (Epic/UChart).
  • Works as part of an interdisciplinary team and acts as a liaison between Nursing and Surgical services.
  • Provides education on wound care, drain care, tracheostomy tube care, feeding tube care, and line care.
  • Participates in quality control programs and continuous assessment of care quality.
  • Sees consultations in inpatient units or Emergency Room to facilitate efficient care.
  • Provides documentation to drive case mix index (CMI) and responds to queries.
  • Facilitates timely and safe discharges to meet institutional goals.
  • Collaborates with physician leaders in monthly data analytics/efficiency meetings.
  • Ensures communication with outpatient healthcare clinics to enhance service quality.

Requirements

• Education: Master’s degree in Nursing (MSN) required.
• Certification and Licensing:
  • Current board certification by an accredited APRN certifying body required.
  • Valid State of Florida APRN license required.
  • BLS – Basic Life Support certification required.
  • National Provider Identifier (NPI) required prior to employment start date.
  • Must meet current Medicare requirements for billing.
• Experience: Minimum of 1 year of relevant experience.
