About the Role
Assist physician with duties necessary to support the needs of the practice, working within and to the maximum scope of license.
Requirements
- LPN – Must be licensed in the state of practice
- One-year experience in healthcare field preferred but not required
Responsibilities
- Directs patient to exam room and prepares patient for exam or treatment by identifying height, weight, respirations, blood pressure, temperature, additional testing, and records same on chart
- Interviews patient to obtain history, allergies, reconciles medication list, and records on chart as requested
- Writes or calls in prescriptions after obtaining surgeon/provider authorization for all department surgeons/providers as needed; charts as written in patient’s record
- Handles insurance referrals by email, fax, or phone; follows up with referral number to specialist if requested
- Assists in smooth departmental operation by filling in for other LPNs, clinical assistants, and MOAs as requested
- Answers telephone and performs clerical functions (screens calls according to urgency and need)
- Maintains proficiency in the use of computer equipment and other computer programs as requested
- Ensures exam and procedure rooms are properly supplied, orderly, and clean; orders medications or clinical supplies as requested
- Administers prescribed injections/medications and records them on patient’s chart
- Routes patient after exam to proper area for ancillary testing or follow-up appointments (e.g., blood work, x-rays) and enters lab testing as requested
- Demonstrates basic knowledge of medications, including side effects and contraindications
- Reads and reviews pathology results with patients
- Sets up and tears down sterile fields
- Demonstrates basic knowledge of surgical instruments
- Prepares surgical trays as needed for daily procedures
- Assists surgeon with operative procedures both in the office and operating room if necessary
- Maintains infection control measures, including proper cleaning of surgical equipment and use of autoclave
- Proficient with autoclave sterilization process
- Performs dressing changes and suture removal with knowledge and proficiency
- Assesses signs and symptoms of infection and reports to surgeon and/or provider
- Follows hepatitis checks and protocol to protect surgeon, patient, and nurse
- May perform high-level disinfection based on departmental equipment
- Performs other duties as assigned and appropriate for LPN licensure
- Attends new employee orientation and all mandatory events, such as in-services, classes, and training as required by the organization
- Complies with the dress code policy
- Attends and participates in department meetings, contributing to department/office goals
Pay
$22.24 - $34.70/hour
