About the Role

Assist physician with duties necessary to support the needs of the practice, working within and to the maximum scope of license.

Requirements

  • LPN – Must be licensed in the state of practice
  • One-year experience in healthcare field preferred but not required

Responsibilities

  • Directs patient to exam room and prepares patient for exam or treatment by identifying height, weight, respirations, blood pressure, temperature, additional testing, and records same on chart
  • Interviews patient to obtain history, allergies, reconciles medication list, and records on chart as requested
  • Writes or calls in prescriptions after obtaining surgeon/provider authorization for all department surgeons/providers as needed; charts as written in patient’s record
  • Handles insurance referrals by email, fax, or phone; follows up with referral number to specialist if requested
  • Assists in smooth departmental operation by filling in for other LPNs, clinical assistants, and MOAs as requested
  • Answers telephone and performs clerical functions (screens calls according to urgency and need)
  • Maintains proficiency in the use of computer equipment and other computer programs as requested
  • Ensures exam and procedure rooms are properly supplied, orderly, and clean; orders medications or clinical supplies as requested
  • Administers prescribed injections/medications and records them on patient’s chart
  • Routes patient after exam to proper area for ancillary testing or follow-up appointments (e.g., blood work, x-rays) and enters lab testing as requested
  • Demonstrates basic knowledge of medications, including side effects and contraindications
  • Reads and reviews pathology results with patients
  • Sets up and tears down sterile fields
  • Demonstrates basic knowledge of surgical instruments
  • Prepares surgical trays as needed for daily procedures
  • Assists surgeon with operative procedures both in the office and operating room if necessary
  • Maintains infection control measures, including proper cleaning of surgical equipment and use of autoclave
  • Proficient with autoclave sterilization process
  • Performs dressing changes and suture removal with knowledge and proficiency
  • Assesses signs and symptoms of infection and reports to surgeon and/or provider
  • Follows hepatitis checks and protocol to protect surgeon, patient, and nurse
  • May perform high-level disinfection based on departmental equipment
  • Performs other duties as assigned and appropriate for LPN licensure
  • Attends new employee orientation and all mandatory events, such as in-services, classes, and training as required by the organization
  • Complies with the dress code policy
  • Attends and participates in department meetings, contributing to department/office goals

Pay

$22.24 - $34.70/hour
