In this role, you'll develop and deliver engaging training that empowers staff to serve our customers with confidence. You'll stay current on policy changes, provide hands-on coaching and support, collaborate with NC FAST as a technical resource, and help ensure our work meets the highest quality standards through regular reviews and continuous process improvement.
All DSS positions are subject to reallocation contingent upon funding, agency needs and client population and are subject to perform work during emergency or disaster situations as required and may be required to staff shelter overnight.
Responsibilities
- Provide ongoing training and technical assistance to income maintenance staff.
- Interpret policy changes, guide staff through updates, and help troubleshoot challenging cases.
- Conduct initial assessments to identify barriers and goals, complete orientations, and collaboratively develop and update an agreement that outlines the path to employment success.
- Conduct comprehensive reviews of Medicaid cases to ensure compliance with federal, state, and local policies.
- Identify trends, errors, and training needs through diagnostic evaluations and data analysis.
- Maintain accurate case records and data in agency systems, ensuring timely entry of participation hours, outcome plans, and benefit releases to maintain compliance and program integrity.
- Stay current on Medicaid and Economic Services program policies. Ensure accuracy and consistency in case determinations, benefit calculations, and customer communications.
- Mentor and support staff through coaching, constructive feedback, and hands-on training. Support supervisors by reviewing and evaluating their case assessments to maintain consistent quality standards.
- Assist in audit preparation (federal, state, or local), contribute to the development of corrective or improvement plans, and ensure follow-up implementation.
Requirements
- Graduation from a four-year college/university; or
- Graduation from an accredited associate degree program in Human Services Technology, Social Services Associate, Business Administration, or a closely related curriculum; or
- Graduation from high school with three years of paraprofessional, clerical, or other public contact experience which includes negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, the gathering and compiling of data, the analysis of data and/or the performance of mathematical or legal tasks; or
- Graduation from high school and two years of paraprofessional, clerical or other public contact experience which included negotiating, interviewing, explaining information, gathering and compiling of data, analysis of data and/or performance of mathematical or legal tasks with at least one year of such experience being in an income maintenance program; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
To qualify for the Income Maintenance Caseworker III position, in addition to the experience noted above, the candidate must have at least two years of additional experience as an Income Maintenance Caseworker.

- Possession of a valid NC driver's license.

Work Environment: Standard office setting. Employees are frequently subject to working with agitated clients, heavy workloads and compressed time frames.

- Life Insurance: Basic term life insurance is the amount of one times the annual salary (no greater than $70,000) is provided for all full-time employees. Additional coverage is available for purchase through payroll deductions for employee and eligible dependents.
- Retirement Benefits: Membership in the NC Local Government Employees Retirement System (NCLGERS) is a requirement for all full-time and regular part-time employees (working more than 1,000 hours annually). Employees contribute six percent (6%) of their annual compensation before it is taxed.

- Vacation Time: Annual Leave is accrued based on years of service. Employees can accrue from 10-25 days per year.
- Sick Time: All County full-time employees earn 12 days of sick leave per year.
