Admin Specialist I (HR)- Rockingham YDC
About the role
The Division of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention within the Department of Public Safety is seeking an Administrative Specialist I (S) to join our team. This position is located at Rockingham Youth Development Center in Reidsville, NC.
Responsibilities
- Maintains a filing system that includes employee personnel files, timesheets, and monthly reports.
- Serves as the facility Time Administrator, Workers Comp/FMLA Administrator.
- Handles hiring process for facility and communicates with JJ HR and CHR.
- Conducts onboarding for new hires to include benefits overview.
- Processes paperwork for employee separations.
- Processes HR actions such as LOA requests and pay actions.
- Serves as point of contact for worker's compensation claims including completing and submitting claims to Workers Compensation third party administrator and ensuring incidents are documented on the OSHA log/summary.
- Composes written correspondences, answers telephones, takes and delivers messages, and processes incoming and outgoing mail and parcel packages and deliveries.
- Performs miscellaneous administrative duties assigned by the Director and Business Officer and serves as backup for the administrative reception desk as the initial point of contact for all visitors and staff.
- Serves as the backup for the facility Business Officer and other Administrative Specialists with duties that include: motor fleet management of on-site vehicles, processing invoices, entering and receiving E-Procurement requests, obtaining e-quotes for goods and services, monitoring updates in NCFS, and assisting with P-card purchases reconciliation.
Requirements
The minimum education and experience required for this position are:
- A high school diploma or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and two years of related administrative experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities/Management Preferences:
- Human Resources experience in a "generalist" type role with knowledge of a variety of HR areas.
- Human Resource experience that has served a team with 20 or more employees.
- Demonstrated experience entering employee's time using HR time management systems.
- Experience with North Carolina State HRIS systems.

Pay
The salary range for this position is $39,244-$68,379. Salary will be based on relevant qualifications, internal equity, and budgetary considerations pertinent to the advertised position.
Schedule
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with a work schedule of Monday-Friday, 8am-5pm.
