About the Role

Under the direction of the Dean, Department Chair, or Program Director, the Adjunct Faculty Member is responsible for providing academic instruction to students in the Master's in Marriage and Family Therapy (MFT) program. This role involves teaching graduate courses, assessing student performance, and supporting student success in alignment with the university’s mission and goals.

Responsibilities

• Provide academic instruction through lectures, labs, or performance courses, assessing and developing cognitive abilities, communication skills, and higher-order thinking skills.
• Advise and instruct students on programs of study, lifelong learning resources, and effective study skills; refer students to support services as appropriate.
• Observe and evaluate student performance through assignments, projects, discussions, and examinations; provide timely feedback.
• Plan and organize instruction according to approved course outlines and student learning outcomes, aligning with department and university mission/goals.
• Maintain accurate records of course enrollment, attendance, student academic progress, and learning outcomes; submit data and reports in a timely manner.
• Evaluate and select instructional materials (e.g., textbooks, software) in collaboration with discipline faculty; ensure timely delivery of materials.
• Integrate current and emerging instructional technologies to enhance teaching and the educational experience.
• Uphold professional standards, including student confidentiality.
• Perform related duties as assigned.

Requirements

• Master’s degree from a recognized graduate institution or equivalent professional experience and recognition.
• Practice in providing clinical services as a Marriage and Family Therapist (MFT).
• Thorough knowledge of current theory and practice within the MFT discipline.
• Ability to deliver course curricula using varied learning styles.
• Sensitivity to and understanding of diverse academic, social, economic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, including students with disabilities.
• Effective oral and written communication skills with tact, patience, and courtesy.

Preferred Qualifications

• Doctoral degree in a discipline related to MFT.
• Knowledge and experience using family systems theory.

Physical Demands

• Manual dexterity to operate office equipment.
• Ability to speak for extended periods to exchange information, provide instruction, and make presentations.
• Sitting or standing for extended periods.
• Pushing, pulling, or lifting light objects.
• Bending and reaching to store and retrieve files.

Working Environment

Indoor classroom environment; occasional visits to various classroom sites on campus.

Pay

$32–$34.50 per hour.
