Adjunct Faculty, Marriage and Family Therapy Programs

Salary Range: $1,000 (Masters) per credit hour, $1,200 (Ph.D/Doctorate) per credit hour

This is a part-time, exempt adjunct faculty position within the School of Education and Behavioral Sciences, primarily teaching courses in the Masters and Doctor of Marriage and Family Therapy programs. The ideal candidate will be passionate about fostering student learning and supporting students from diverse backgrounds, including those traditionally underrepresented in higher education.

Responsibilities

• Deliver high-quality courses (including both in-person and online formats) in alignment with program goals and university standards.
• Engage students through innovative teaching methods and active learning strategies.
• Participate in curriculum development and assessment for special programs.
• Contribute to ongoing accreditation efforts and program evaluations.
• Offer academic support and guidance to students enrolled in MFT graduate courses.
• Hold regular office hours and be available for student consultation.
• Attend department meetings and serve on program, school, and university committees as needed.
• Actively contribute to the mission of Chaminade University, including supporting students of Native Hawaiian and Pacific Island ancestry.
• Perform occasional university service duties, which may include working nights and weekends.

Requirements

• Minimum Master's degree in Marriage and Family Therapy, Counseling, or a related field (to teach within the Masters MFT program).
• Doctorate Degree in Human Development & Family Science/Family Social Science, Marriage and Family Therapy, Psychology, Counselor Education, or a closely related field (to teach within the Doctor of MFT program).
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact and work with a diverse faculty, staff, and student body.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or related software, learning management systems (e.g., Canvas), and other programs related to teaching, learning, advising, and assessment.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous teaching experience at the college level, particularly with diverse and non-traditional student populations.
• Experience in special education settings, such as early college programs or prison education.

Physical Requirements

• Duties involve light work in an office and community setting with intermittent sitting, standing, climbing stairs, and walking inclines.
• Must be able to lift 20 pounds, walk the campus with ease, and have excellent motor skills.
• Must have finger dexterity and the ability to communicate information and ideas effectively.

Schedule

This is a part-time position, generally requiring 19 hours per week (Monday through Friday). However, depending on project cycles and workflow demands, additional hours or schedule changes may occasionally be required, including nights and weekends.
